NAACP Partners with Lyft to Transport Voters to the Polls in 2024 Election
Recently, the NAACP and Lyft announced their partnership in the Lyft Up Voting Access Program where the organizations will help provide access to the polls by sharing critical voting access information and providing free and discounted rides to the polls. This partnership will be part of the NAACP’s comprehensive, multi-million dollar civic engagement campaign which includes polling support, voter education, and community engagement in states with the highest density of Black voters.
Derrick Johnson, NAACP President & CEO shared the following statement:
“During a time where our most sacred right to vote is under attack, we must fight back with every tool at our disposal. For many Americans, especially Black Americans, accessible and affordable transportation continues to impede access to the ballot box. The NAACP is proud to continue working with our partners at Lyft to create pathways to the polls through free and low-cost rideshare services. Together, we will make sure every vote is counted and every voice is heard.”
The program is set to:
- Offer discounted rides to the polls on Election Day (November 5, 2024) across the country.
- Donate free or heavily discounted ride codes to nonprofit partners whose communities traditionally face barriers getting to the polls.
- Help riders, drivers, and team members register, prepare to vote, and understand voting ID requirements.
This year, The Association is focused on mobilizing 13.5 million Black voters across 12 priority states. NAACP civic engagement work ranges from country-wide trainings, election protection hubs, to the distribution of funds to units and grassroots organizations.
